Sandwich Bread
Simple enough AND I won't bombard you with a storytime until the end of the recipe, if I decide I care enough. If you wanna read it, scroll down. Maybe eventually I'll figure out how to code the jump ahead thing.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1/4 cup warm whole milk (110°F)
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 1/2 tsp unsalted salt (jk) salt
- 3 1/3 cup flour (all-purpose or bread. You can taste the difference but it doesn't really matter, all-purpose is cheaper anyway)
Directions:
note: you can use a mixer, but we are broke kids so no way in hell we own one of those
- Prepare the dough:
- Whisk the warm water, warm milk, yeast, and sugar together. Once incorporated, cover with a clean kitchen towel for 5 minutes
- Then add the butter, salt, and only 1 cup of the flour. Mix with silicone spatula or wooden spoon. Once incorporated, add 1 more cup of flour
- Finally, add the rest of the flour and stir until it comes together
- Knead the dough:
- Take dough out of the bowl and set it on a CLEAN surface
- Knead it for 5-10 minutes. It will be very sticky but keep on kneading. Add pinches of flour one at a time until it feels better (only do this after 5 minutes though)
- Rising your dough (1st time):
- Set your dough back into the bowl (after its cleaned) and cover it with the clean kitchen towel from earlier
- Keep this bowl somewhere it won't be disturbed
- Let it sit for 2 hours (3 if you are in a dry climate)
- Grease a 9in x 5in pan (you can get a cheap tinfoil one at dollar tree or any grocery store)
- Preparing for baking (and rising, 2nd time):
- Push the bread down to release air. Lightly flour a clean surface, your hands, and a cup (or rolling pin if you aren't a broke kid...)
- Roll out the dough to be a big rectangle, roughly 8in x 16in
- Roll this into a log and place it in your greased pan
- This time, don't cover and let it rise in that safe place until the dough is about an inch about the top of the pan (about an hour)
- Baking
- Preheat oven to 350°F
- Place on the lowest rack to prevent the top from burning
- Bake for 35 minutes
- Now cool and enjoy your bread!!!!!
