Sandwich Bread

Simple enough AND I won't bombard you with a storytime until the end of the recipe, if I decide I care enough. If you wanna read it, scroll down. Maybe eventually I'll figure out how to code the jump ahead thing.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  2. 1/4 cup warm whole milk (110°F)
  3. 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  4. 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  5. 4 tbsp butter
  6. 1 1/2 tsp unsalted salt (jk) salt
  7. 3 1/3 cup flour (all-purpose or bread. You can taste the difference but it doesn't really matter, all-purpose is cheaper anyway)

Directions:

note: you can use a mixer, but we are broke kids so no way in hell we own one of those

  1. Prepare the dough:
    1. Whisk the warm water, warm milk, yeast, and sugar together. Once incorporated, cover with a clean kitchen towel for 5 minutes
    2. Then add the butter, salt, and only 1 cup of the flour. Mix with silicone spatula or wooden spoon. Once incorporated, add 1 more cup of flour
    3. Finally, add the rest of the flour and stir until it comes together
  2. Knead the dough:
    1. Take dough out of the bowl and set it on a CLEAN surface
    2. Knead it for 5-10 minutes. It will be very sticky but keep on kneading. Add pinches of flour one at a time until it feels better (only do this after 5 minutes though)
  3. Rising your dough (1st time):
    1. Set your dough back into the bowl (after its cleaned) and cover it with the clean kitchen towel from earlier
    2. Keep this bowl somewhere it won't be disturbed
    3. Let it sit for 2 hours (3 if you are in a dry climate)
  4. Grease a 9in x 5in pan (you can get a cheap tinfoil one at dollar tree or any grocery store)
  5. Preparing for baking (and rising, 2nd time):
    1. Push the bread down to release air. Lightly flour a clean surface, your hands, and a cup (or rolling pin if you aren't a broke kid...)
    2. Roll out the dough to be a big rectangle, roughly 8in x 16in
    3. Roll this into a log and place it in your greased pan
    4. This time, don't cover and let it rise in that safe place until the dough is about an inch about the top of the pan (about an hour)
  6. Baking
    1. Preheat oven to 350°F
    2. Place on the lowest rack to prevent the top from burning
    3. Bake for 35 minutes
  7. Now cool and enjoy your bread!!!!!
