Bavarian Pretzel
I won't bombard you with a storytime until the end of the recipe, if I decide I care enough. If you wanna read it, scroll down. Maybe eventually I'll figure out how to code the jump ahead thing.
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp light brown sugar
- 5 tbsp (50 g) warm water
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Pinch of salt
For the baking soda bath:
- 4 cups water
- ¼ cup baking soda
Directions:
- Make the dough:
- In a small bowl, mix yeast, sugar, and 1 tbsp of the warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes
- Stir in the rest of the water as well as flour and salt
- Mix then knead for 5 minutes
- Shaping the pretzel and rising:
- Use a cup (or rolli ng pin if you aren't a broke kid) to roll out the dough into a 30in long rope
- Shape into pretzel and transfer it to a lightly greased baking sheet
- Let the dough sit in a safe place for 30 minutes to become fluffy
- Baking soda bath:
- Preheat oven to 450°F
- Boil the 4 cups of water and then bring to simmer
- Slowly add the baking soda (be careful it bubbles up)
- Place the pretzel in the bath for ONLY 30 seconds and remove with a spatula
- Bake for 12 minutes
- All done, enjoy! (cheese sauce recipe under dressings and sauces tab)
